The Truth About Home Turf Media

These would be good questions to ask me if Home Turf was more established. Currently, if you’d like to get involved and shape the network and its position on these policies…now’s the time.

1) How much power do bloggers have over their blogs?

Bloggers will have a say in their color theme, header and logo design and domain name; they know their city best after all.

As long as the posting guidelines are being met and the posts are on topic [location] then bloggers are free to do as they see fit.

2) What percentage of bloggers are active on the internal blogs, forums and mailing list on a daily and weekly basis?

Once we get the initial three pilot project blogs rolled out and running, first priority will be to set up the internal forums…that’s where the all the fun, insider deals and great blogging tips will be.

I’d like to have monthly Skype conference calls, just because it’s nice to hear everyone’s voice and it’s healthy get out of “screen mode” once and a while.

3) May I talk to some of your larger, and smaller, bloggers?

[n/a, ask again once we have some blogs :) ]

4) What percentage of your traffic and income do the top 10% of your blogs represent?

[n/a, ask again once we have some blogs ]

5) How much are you currently paying out to bloggers (as a whole) every month, and how much has that amount been growing every month?

[n/a, ask again once we have some blogs ]

6) Who owns the content?

The bloggers. Home Turf will license the blog posts indefinitely. Bloggers will be free to use their articles and posts offline; so go ahead and write that “Guide to Your Town” and then sign a book deal based on the fame you built with your Home Turf Media blog.

7) What is the exit strategy?

Still working on the entrance strategy…hopefully the exit will look something like…we all get rich and live happily ever after.

8) What backups and disaster recovery plans does the network have in place?

I’m an IT guy, I get this one, I won’t sleep at night if I think the data is at risk - we’ll have an official plan once the network is properly launched.

9) What differentiates you?

We believe that city based blogs are a largely untapped niche. With the increasing flow of advertising dollars towards local search terms, a network of city based blogs will be well positioned to control a significant portion of this spending.

I believe in forming long term bonds with the people involved in this project. We’ll have our ups and downs, but we’re in it together and I know that success will be based on how we do as a team.

10) Badgers?

Yes please, we’d love to have a blog in at least a couple cities in Wisconsin.
