Why Some People can Make More Money Blogging for Home Turf Media

I’d like to explain a bit of the thinking that went into my wanting to create a network of local or city based blogs.

From the point of view of a blogger there are 4 good reasons why blogging for Home Turf Media can improve your chances for success online.

1.) Local search is an emerging trend.

  • Have you noticed that your copy of the YellowPages is gathering a lot of dust lately? That’s because more and more people are using the web to search for local products and services.
  • This means that more and more local merchants and service providers will need to advertise online.
  • Unless you live in a very large city, there aren’t a lot of high quality content-rich websites where local advertisers can place ads [don't worry if you do live in a big city. By focusing on city regions there is still lots of opportunity.]
  • Blogs are the perfect remedy to this situation. With a mix of news, opinion and feature stories it will not be hard for a blogger to establish themselves as a valuable resource for locals and potential tourists to an area; and therefore attract advertising revenue.

2.) Blog networks offer a new dimension in advertising revenues.

  • If you start your own local blog, of course you can plunk AdSense on your site and when Billy-Bob’s Ford Dealership in your city wants to spend some money on advertising his contextual ads will likely end up on your site.
  • What if Ford Motors wants to buy ads to announce a new car and they want to buy ads across the country? It’s our intention to build out Home Turf Media to be large enough to offer Ford [and other large and small companies] enough viewers across the country [world] so that they will be able to enjoy the blended targeting of contextual ads that make sense nationally, regionally and locally.
  • The bottom line for you, the blogger, is a completely new dimension to your earning potential from blogging. You’ll receive your 60% share of a potentially much larger pie for any revenue generated on your site.

3.) It’s easy to blog your city.

  • One of the tough parts of blogging can be finding things to write about on a regular basis, but when you’re blogging your city almost everything you do can be turned into a blog post.
  • All you need to do is live your normal life and blog the revelations you experience in your city day to day.
  • If you carry a camera then you’ll have visuals to go with every story. If you get stuck there’s the evening news and local papers pointing you to great content. It’s more fun than living with your head in an RSS reader as a lot of traditional niche bloggers are forced to do.
  • Easier access to story ideas = more and better content = more revenue.

4.) You get to focus on writing great content.

  • In the world of blogging, the money is in the content, not in registering and renewing domain names, worrying about hosting accounts, fixing your template, upgrading WordPress with the latest patches and optimizing and selling ads. That’s why we’ll handle all that stuff and you just focus on engaging your readers.
  • Once the first couple of blogs are up and running we’ll have an internal forum set up where you will be able to share and receive tips and exclusive training and resources. Many who blog for networks express that these internal forums are the most valuable part of their partnership.

There you have it, the 4 reasons why I intend to create a network of city based blogs and why I think blogging for Home Turf Media will be a huge opportunity for someone with passion for and opinions about the place they live in.
