Welcome to Home Turf Media and the April 23, 2007 edition of the Carnival of Cities.  Thanks again to Sadie’s Take on Delaware Ohio for hosting last week’s carnival.

Off we go….

**  Cities in the Americas  **

Tarpon Springs, Florida, USA   Colleen puts a city spotlight on Tarpon Springs, a unique Greek sponge-diving community on the Florida Gulf Coast.  She writes at TheFloridaBlog.

Manhattan, New York, USA   In honor of Earth Day, Shedwa has a fun video clip showing us a “sea of people” scoping out lower Manhattan.  Find more great New York City info at shedwa.

Columbus, Ohio, USA   Take a Midwest stroll with Toby Boyce, as he describes one of Columbus’ walkable neighborhoods, the Arena District and gives a few real estate tips.  Toby writes at Sadie’s Take.

Prescott, Arizona, USA   Who says that traditioinal media is dead/dying?  Not in this small town in the West — the Prescott Media Watch is posted at Walking Prescott, and it covers all the local bases for news.  GrannyJ says, ”It’s easy to say that one’s town is a one newspaper town. But if you look around, there are weeklies and monthly magazines, as well as blogs giving the local news. This post lists as many as I can locate.”

San Jose, California, USA   Silicon Valley Blogger explains how to kill your credit instantly with mortgage fraud and subprime borrowing.  Blogging at The Digerati Life, he warns that the “exotic mortgage” problem (now rampant throughout the US) is a particular problem in expensive real estate areas of northern California.

Seattle, Washington, USA   You can get your hands on every genre of mystery (thriller, the caper, hard-boiled) and then find out whodunit at the Seattle Mystery Book Store. Mary Jo Manzanares writes at The Seattle Traveler, saying, “There’s nothing like a good book store to give you the feel of the heart and soul of a city.”

San Diego, California, USA   Carole Lane chills out with Cold Stone Confessions posted at The San Diego Beat, saying, “A trip to Cold Stone Creamery causes an ice cream fanatic to relive some old memories and make a new one.”

Atlanta, Georgia, USA   Anthony sets out exploring the life of Martin Luther King, Jr. in the original Sweet Auburn neighborhood.  Read all about it at The Lives and Times… of Anthony McCune.

Folly Beach (near Charleston) South Carolina, USA   Catch a wave and a bohemian surfer vibe in the South Carolina Low Country, as jaz presents Folly posted at the blog Wicked Winter

San Francisco, California, USA   Kathryn writes a heartfelt love letter to San Francisco at her blog San Fran Voice, saying, “If there is such a thing as soulmates, San Francisco is mine. This is a love letter to my sweetheart sent from a weekend away in another city.”

  **  Cities in Asia  **

Shanghai….or Beijing? China   Dan Harris wonders about China’s future: is it in Shanghai or in Beijing? He poses his age-old question at the China Law Blog, but half the fun is in the post’s comments!

Mauritius, Indian Ocean   Alfa King is excited that the racing season is back in his country (horse racing has been run there by the Mauritius Turf Club since 1812.)   There’s more at Alfa King Memories.

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia   Dying will not help you escape the long arm of the law in Malaysia.  CJCM warns miscreants:  criminals…. you will be prosecuted in Malaysian courts even when you are already dead.  He writes at Kuala Lumpur is Home.

  **  Cities in Europe  **

Preston, United Kingdom   Riversider wonders if the Preston City Council is looking to “build all over” South Ribble? There is passionate discussion about development at Save The Ribble.

Lisse, the Netherlands   Mother Road invites everyone to tiptoe through the tulips at the Keukenhof gardens outside Amsterdam.  She writes about family travel at Kid Trippin’, part of Disney’s Family.com Web site.

Rome, Italy   Henry Bagdasarian gives some great personal security tips as he recounts his experiences during a trip to Italy.  He blogs at Free Identity Theft Prevention, Detection and Fraud Solutions.

Thanks for coming around the world with us.

Hello I am hosting it on my blog. Blogpower is a group blog for the group of bloggers that I associate. Can you correct that. Thanks.

Hi Colin. It’s fixed; thanks for stopping by.

[…] This week’s Carnival of Cities has articles about: […]

[…] The theme of this week’s carnival of cities is Urban World.  Since the carnival usually starts in the U.S., I’ll turn it upside down and start in Europe this week. […]

[…] My recent city spotlight on Tarpon Springs was highlighted in a Carnival Of Cities this week, which was put together by Home Turf Media. There are lots of great submissions to enjoy, so head on over and see what others had to offer for this edition. […]

These are great! Love letters to cities, tulips so beautiful they look fake (that’s a compliment for flowers!), charging dead people with crimes, blogs with comments that steal the show, ice cream and books! Sounds like a perfect carnival to me! Nice combo Sheila!

Thanks Evelyn, I just organize and present the goodies; it’s all of the great bloggers who send in such a fun mix!
